04. November 2009
The FIC President Aleksandar Radosavljevic participated at the 9th Economic Summit of the Republic of Serbia, as one of the speakers at the panel "The course of the Serbian Economy: challenges & solutions".
Speed of reaction to the crisis was uneven, as companies responded with more alert, stated Radosavljevic. Crisis pointed out to issues which have been burdening Serbia for years, such as high public expenditure and lack of reforms of the public sector. He stated that the Government needed to design policies which would recognize capacities of the private sector and increase productivity of the public sector.
Talking about support that Serbia received from the international financial institutions, FIC President noted that the foreign investors were encouraged by the reached agreements with belief that they would focus on cutting public expenditure, lead to public administration reform and infrastructure development, and take into consideration interest of the business sector.
Aleksandar Radosavljevic identified two important processes within the legislative developments: Guillotine process that FIC actively supported by giving more than 100 proposals on how to improve the regulations, and high production of the new legislation as part of the EU integration process, where he underlined the concern of the foreign investors for the capacity of the administration to follow through that activity by adopting necessary by-laws, and ensuring consistent implementation which was crucial for attaining level playing field.
FIC President conveyed the FIC main messages for the future: clear economic policy, continuation of reform process, efficient administration and level playing field.
