Telecommunications & IT Committee

The FIC established a sector specific committee on telecommunications in January 2009 - Telecommunications Committee, with the main aim to facilitate discussion on regulatory issues among representatives of member companies and provide proposals on how to improve regulatory framework relating to the telecommunication industry. As of June 2010, the Committee expanded its portfolio to include IT sector topic, and therefore changed the name into Telecommunications&IT Committee.

Telecommunications&IT Committee current goals are:

Following implementation of the Action Plan for implementation of the Strategy for Telecommunication recently published by the Telecom Ministry
Looking into simplifications of construction process for base stations
Alerting on environmental issues that are becoming more evident due to some municipalities recommendations not to issue any permits for base stations built in residential areas and even on land where residences are to be built
Tracking the implementation of Guillotine Strategy in the areas related to telecom sector
Strengthening relationships with Ratel and Ministries

As a forum for gathering of its members, at its regular sessions the Committee will:

discuss the current situation in telecommunications sector and existing obstacles
propose adequate measures to address the open issues
influence regulatory reforms in order to speed it up
organize stakeholder meetings, and other forms of promoting better regulation and better conditions for doing business
discuss the results, and follow up on its activities
share the best practices from the telecommunication markets where the Committee's members operate
provide expertise in the fields of competence

In order to actively support and improve the work of the FIC committees, the FIC Board of Directors delegated members of the BoD that would act as a patron of a specific committee. This role entails providing active support to the committees with respect to the communication and promotion of committee work to membership, GoV, stakeholder community, and media.
