Eurobank EFG supported the National PET Centre

Today, Serbian president Boris Tadić and Serbian Minister of Health, Prof. Dr Tomica Milosavljević have officially opened the National PET Centre, a state-of-the-art centre for early diagnosis and treatment of malignant diseases.

Approximately 5 millions Euros have been provided from funds allocated from the budget of the Republic of Serbia and financial support of Eurobank EFG through a EUR1m worth of donation

for construction and equipment of the National PET Centre that is to be situated on the premises of the Clinical Centre of Serbia. The donation from Eurobank EFG is part of the Bank's CSR program, which so far has contibuted more than EUR3m in Serbia in the areas of education, inclusive society, health care and environment.

The establishment of the National PET Centre is part of a strategic plan of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Serbia for providing medical institutions with the latest diagnostics equipment within the "Serbia against Cancer" programme, initiated by experts, bearing in mind a huge diagnostics potential of the PET technique and an increase of a rate of malignant diseases in our country.

Positron emission tomography (PET) is a unique diagnostic technique in nuclear medicine, a technique which helps us "see" and "measure" the most subtle metabolic and other activities in cells of different tissues and organs.

Expected results and advantages of the National PET Centre are faster precise diagnoses and better results in treating grave diseases, reduction of a volume of unnecessary surgical and other therapeutical procedures, as a result of the reliability of PET diagnostics results.

Owing to huge diagnostics potentials of this technique, a correct diagnosis of the gravest diseases is accelerated, thus contributing to timely and suitable planning of a treatment and precise evaluation of treatment results, and therefore better prognoses of diseases.

Director of the Clinical Centre of Serbia, Dorđe Bajec, MD, and President of the Executive Board of Eurobank EFG, Philippos Karamanolis, and Director of the Institute for Nuclear Medicine, Prof. Dr Vladimir Obradović attended the official inauguration ceremony of the National PET Centre.
